30 Couple Challenges: Games Where One of You Actually Wins

2 Sept 2026

Most couples games are conversations. Challenges are different — somebody wins, and the stakes are whatever you agreed at the start.

That difference matters more than it sounds. A conversation game ends when you drift; a challenge ends when there is a result, which is why these work better with competitive people and on nights when neither of you wants to be reflective.

10 quick ones

  • Who can name more of the other's exes in thirty seconds?
  • Staring contest, best of three, no talking.
  • Who can build the taller tower from whatever is on the table?
  • Name a country in turn until one of you stalls.
  • Who can hold a plank longer?
  • Draw each other in sixty seconds with your non-dominant hand; a third party judges.
  • Who can recall more items from the fridge without looking?
  • First to make the other laugh wins. No touching.
  • Who can name more songs by the other's favourite artist?
  • Rock paper scissors, first to five, no discussion between rounds.

10 that take an evening

  • Cook the same dish separately with the same ingredients. Blind taste test.
  • Each pick a film for the other. Whoever's pick is enjoyed more wins.
  • Write a five-line poem about the other. Read them aloud; a friend picks.
  • Plan a date each with the same budget. Do both. Rate them afterwards.
  • Each choose a playlist for a drive. Skips are counted; fewest wins.
  • Teach each other something in ten minutes, then test.
  • Take the same photo from the same spot. Post both and let the internet judge.
  • Recreate a dish you both ate on an early date. Closest wins.
  • Each write down five predictions for the year. Seal, open in twelve months.
  • Learn the same short dance. Perform to each other.

10 for a whole week

  • No phones after nine. First to break loses.
  • One new thing each, every day, reported back that night.
  • Whoever complains first about anything loses.
  • Each hide a note somewhere for the other to find. Most creative wins.
  • No takeaways. First to cave pays for the next one.
  • Compliment the other three times a day. First to run out of new ones loses.
  • Step count contest.
  • Each pick a book. Whoever finishes first picks the next date.
  • Sleep-and-wake at agreed times. First to break the routine loses.
  • Save the same amount daily. Whoever slips buys dinner.

Setting the stakes

This is the part that makes or breaks it. Stakes that work:

The loser picks nothing for a week — film, food, music. Genuinely irritating and completely harmless.

The loser owes a favour, unspecified, redeemable within the month. The best stake on this list because the anticipation lasts longer than the game.

The loser plans the next date entirely. Everybody wins.

Stakes to avoid: anything financial that either of you would actually feel, and anything either of you would be genuinely upset to lose. The point is the contest, not the punishment.

Two rules

Agree the stake before you know who is winning. Obvious, universally ignored, and the source of every argument these cause.

One person cannot win everything. If the same person takes six in a row, change the categories rather than continuing — a challenge nobody can win stops being a game very quickly.

Play them with the scoring handled

Couple Challenges deals head-to-head contests with the win condition attached, free in the browser and nothing to install. For the version where you find out how well you actually know each other, Who Knows Me Better keeps score properly, and Truth or Dare is next door when you want dares instead of contests.
